A Fort Myers man turned himself in to authorities Tuesday in connection with a shooting that killed a 17-year-old.
Adeirean Nicholas Carey, 26, of Fort Myers, turned himself in to authorities and is being charged with second degree murder in the death of Marcos Santiago, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Carey also was charged with possession of marijuana.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies on Saturday responded to the Pine Manor community for shots fired and found a broken window at 5461 Fourth Ave. No one was inside; however, blood on a sidewalk in front of the window prompted a K-9 search. The victim, later identified as Santiago, was found lying in the grass nearby.
Carey was inside the Fourth Avenue duplex and reportedly shot the victim through the window, according to a report.
His attorney, David A. Brener, said the shooting occurred in Carey’s home, and thus, was self-defense.
